Right after I left the financial markets for good, I had a three-month period of (wet, I must confess) dreams in which I was harassed by cross-currency swaps, forward rate agreements and exotic options. That led me to became an alcohol and sex dependent. My doctor prescribed me doses of poverty alleviation (others´not only mine) for life. So I decided to come to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, for friends) to study International Development and Planning and research on vulnerability reduction, natural disasters, and social risk management.
Now I am working on climate and catastrophe risk management in India and Mexico. I live in Cambridge, the US version, which I think is the best one and is across the Charles River from Boston. Ah! And I finally got rid of the bad dreams.
Writing some time in English, feeling most of the time in Spanish, this weblog reflects my research and my interest in economic development and its relationship (if any) with happiness…
(I know, I know: whatever happiness (and economic development) means…and ceteris paribus).
Justo después de dejar por completo el trabajo en mercados financieros sufrí tres meses de sueños (húmedos, he de confesar) en los que era atacado sexualmente por swaps intermonedas, FRAs y opciones exóticas. A raíz de ello me volví un esclavo de ([...] CENSURADO por posible visita de abuela). Mi doctor me recetó dosis de alivio de pobreza (que aqueja a otros, no sólo a mí) de manera permanente. Entonces decidí venir al Instituto Tecnológico de Massachusetts (MIT, en inglés y para los cuates) a estudiar Desarrollo Internacional y Planificación e investigar en reducción de vulnerabilidad, desastres naturales y administración de riesgo social.
Ahora trabajo en administración de riesgo climático y catastrófico en India y México. Vivo en la versión gringa de Cambridge (que según yo es la mejor), la cual está cruzando el río Charles desde Boston. Por cierto que ya no sueño con derivados.
A veces escribo en inglés, pero la mayoría del tiempo siento en español. Este sitio refleja mi investigación y mi interés en desarrollo económico y su relación (si es que hay alguna) con la felicidad.
(Claro, cualquiera que sea el significado de felicidad (y desarrollo económico) y ceteris paribus.)
